WEC Round 4 - The 6 Hours of Austin |
Gulf lubricated Aston Martin Vantage LMGTEs won both the LMGTE Pro and LMGTE Am categories at this weekend's World Endurance Championship race in Austin Texas. In addition, Aston Martin Racing (AMR) also celebrated a 1-2 in the LMGTE Am Category. |
In a race that that ran from day into night and was suspended for around more than half an hour after a torrential rain storm made the track unsafe to drive, the #97 Gulf-liveried V8 Vantage GTE of Darren Turner (GB) and Stefan Mücke (DE) came home a strong winner of the LMGTE Pro category, thereby bringing Aston Martin back into contention for category championship honours. |
In the LMGTE Am category, the #98 Vantage GTE driven by Pedro Lamy (PT), Paul Dalla Lana (CA) and Christoffer Nygaard (DN) took an excellent 2014 maiden category victory, heading home the championship-leading #95 Young Driver AMR car, with its driving team of Kristian Poulsen (DN), David Heinemeier Hansson (DN) and Richie Stanaway (NZ). |
The # 95 car had lead for long periods of the race and, in an incredibly exciting final period of the race, rapidly closed down the #98 Vantage GTE, with Pedro Lamy eventually coming home less than a second ahead of its sister car at the end of the six hours. |
The next race in the World Endurance Championship takes place in three weekends' time at the Mount Fuji circuit in Japan on the 12th October.
