We are proud to do our part for our customer’s team in its quest to scale Mount Kinabalu in Sailors’ Society’s 2015 Asian Challenge.  All the best to the 6 Berge Bulk mountaineers!

Raising Money for Seafarers in Need

 

Berge Bulk is proud to announce that we will be participating in the Sailors’ Society’s 2015 ASIAN Challenge, sending six of our employees to climb Mount Kinabalu in Borneo.

The Sailors’ Society is among the largest and most comprehensive seafarer support charities operating internationally. They assist seafarers from around the world to enrich and enhance their well-being, both in port and whilst at sea. To help sustain the provision of practical, emotional and spiritual support for seafarers worldwide, they also organise fundraising events such as the ASIAN Challenge. Berge Bulk has pledged to raise a minimum of US $17,600 to support seafarers and their families in need.

 


Mount Kinabalu, which is also the name patron of our 177,173 dead-weight tonnage vessel Berge Kinabalu, is situated in the Eastern Malaysian part of Borneo and is a UNESCO world heritage site. Its surrounding national park is home to several rare plants and wildlife, such as the gigantic Rafflesia plants and the orang-utan. Mount Kinabalu’s summit, known as Low’s Peak, elevates to 4,095 metres (13,435 ft) in height and makes Mount Kinabalu number 20 in the list of the world’s most prominent mountains.

 


From 17 – 20 April 2015, six selected Berge Bulk employees tackle the challenge of climbing Mount Kinabalu’s peak. This event is in line with Berge Bulk’s corporate social responsibility agenda of giving back to the society. It also provides a great networking opportunity for our people to meet executives from other shipping companies.
