While water-lubricated bearings may offer a more ecologically acceptable option than the standard oil-lubricated products and are making inroads into the new-buildings, any wholesale transition from oil-lubricated bearings to such technologies needs to be considered much more carefully.
Our Technical and Solutions Director, Mr. Don Gregory who spoke at the above webinar, fully agreed on the importance of cleaner oceans and environmentally compliant ships. But he reminded the audience of the importance of making fact-based business cases when considering such alternative technologies. He pointed out that there is shortage of data on oil leakages that might justify the use of water-lubricated bearings.
