So close for Rising Pune Supergiant

Gulf’s IPL Cricket partners, Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) came within a whisker of being 2017 champions.
It was an incredible season for the Gulf sponsored cricketers. RPS rose from the bottom of the league table, early on, to easily qualify for the Semi-Finals and then become the first team to guarantee their place in the Final.
Some stellar performances from their big name players – Captain, Steve Smith, together with RPS’ player of the season, England’s Ben Stokes (pictured below) & Gulf Brand Ambassador and perennial crowd favourite, MS Dhoni, (pictured top) contributed hugely to the team’s superb form and, despite the loss of Stokes for the Final, hopes were high of a good result.
In a Final that was thrilling right to the very last ball of the tournament, a superb bowling and fielding display by RSP, took them to the interval with a great chance of securing the IPL title. A great performance in the field by Mumbai Indians, however, in restricting RSP’s reply to the 129 target, saw the Gulf team finish their 20 overs heartbreakingly, one run short of the Mumbai total.
Ten years on from its inception, the IPL remains one of the hottest sporting properties in the world and Gulf’s activation of its involvement – particularly in India – continues to help Gulf achieve to greater success. |
