Gulf Oil Marine was pleased to join the webinar organized by the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST), UAE branch on 19th October 2020 to discuss the topic: “Experiences and Challenges: Post 2020 Transition”. The webinar generated a lot of interest; there were more than 370 participants.
Our Senior Technical Manager, Mr. Graham Calder shared his insights onto the industry’s experience during 2020 transition and discussed the challenges associated with IMO 2020 compliant fuels.
Graham also introduced Gulf Oil Marine’s cylinder oil blending unit (COBU) and other new technologies which could potentially assist marine operators to cope with the operational challenges that they were facing.
With the range of available cylinder oils from around 40BN to 140BN swapping cylinder oils, operators may have to regularly alternate the lubes between a lower BN (40BN) and a higher BN (140BN). GOM’s COBU optimises the BN and detergency performance levels of the lubes in the day-tank, to match the actual needs of the engine.
There was also a very lively exchange of ideas during the Q&A session. Two participants who raised the most interesting questions won prizes at the end of webinar.
