Gulf Oil Marine’s Shanghai and Hong Kong teams in addition to 20 VIP guests attended the exciting 6 Hours Zhuhai endurance race on Saturday and Sunday 12-13 November 2011.
Fresh from their recent successes in America, where the team claimed overall victory at the 6 Hours of Monterey and third place at Petit Le Mans, the Aston Martin Racing team came to Zhuhai in China for the final round of the Intercontinental Le Mans Cup.
Since 2007, Aston Martin Racing and Gulf Oil have enjoyed a tremendously successful partnership by bringing together their joint core values of Endurance, Inspiration and Youth, to this prestigious motor racing competition. The Gulf brand was in force with a total of five cars running in the famous blue and orange colours, the instantly recognizable Gulf AMR team having two of these entries including the iconic 007 machine.
Zhuhai International Circuit is the first purpose-built motorsport track in China opened in 2006, and is considered by many to be the heart of a fast developing Chinese motorsport. Combining long straights , high speed corners and sharp hairpins over 4.3 km length, the track has many passing places, all in all making the 6 hour race exciting and captivating viewing for spectators as well as providing a big challenge to the drivers skills, machine speed, performance and mechanical reliability. For the final event of 2011, Aston Martin Racing reverted to the DBR1-2 model for the LMP1 car class, and were eager to maintain the car’s hard earned place at the front of the petrol-engine field. Andy Meyrick, Stefan Mücke and Harold Primat finished sixth overall.
Gulf AMR Middle East in the LM GTE AM category finished the race a credible fifth in class with its V8-powered Vantage GT2.
Former double world Formula 1 champion Mika Häkkinen, also made his debut in endurance racing driving a Mercedes SLS GT3.
Gulf Oil Marine team and their guests added to the significant Gulf brand presence at the highly successful event.
