Gulf Oil Marine’s continued Partnership with the Sailors’ Society

The Sailors’ Society’s annual Hong Kong Shipping Dinner raised a massive HK$1.2m net (approx. £95,000), reflecting the generosity of the shipping community which continues to look after the welfare of less fortunate members of the industry even as it faces increasingly difficult times.
This major shipping event was held at the Shangri La Hotel in Hong Kong, attracting almost 300 prominent shipping executives, some of whom flew in from Singapore and London to attend. Proceeds from the dinner increased dramatically from 2013, allowing the maritime charity to commit to helping even more seafarers this year.
David Lim, a Singaporean mountaineer, was the guest speaker for the evening and delighted guests with his inspirational account of overcoming a debilitating illness that left him paralysed.
Main sponsors Pacific Basin Shipping and Noble Group, also sponsored the two previous Hong Kong dinners. P.B. Subbiah (Subi) of Pacific Basin Shipping and Raghu Raghunath of Noble Group gave stirring speeches endorsing the work that the Society does for the global seafaring community and encouraging guests to dig deep and show their support. Long-time supporter and strategic partner Gulf Oil Marine sponsored the wine for the evening.
An envelope collection raised enough money to fund a new chaplaincy project in the Eastern Visayas region of the Philippines for 6 months, a key concern for the Society in the wake of the significant damage to the area following Typhoon Haiyan.
